Abstract
Recently important results were achieved in clinical practice decision-making and the cognitive basis of diagnostic procedures. However, the stages of the diagnostic process remain unexplored. This research aims to identify tactics according to which diagnosis in psychiatry is conducted by a physician. Method. We base our approach on the supposition that descriptive parameters used in diagnostic scales have different weights. The PANSS scale has been applied as the initial basis of our research. This scale was modified so that apart from giving each characteristic (symptom) its corresponding grade the doctor should provide the weight of this characteristic in the final diagnosis of a patient. The range of this latter parameter varies within 0 (minimum) to 10 (maximum). We succeeded in showing that even if there are few patients the individual diagnostic patterns can be defined. These patterns vary from one psychiatrist to another and are revealed in different distributions of weights of diagnostic parameters. Thus, we have to define a new measure that captures these patterns. In our terms, they describe the dynamics of the changes in relative distributions of weights for different patients. The mirror problem will be to define a new variable that determines the persistency of these patterns. In most cases, correlation is used to determine the relationship between variables. In this case, we use correlation to determine the persistency of the distribution of weights of the diagnostic parameters for different patients. Preliminary Results. The following criteria were identified: Caution/Recklessness; Flexibility/Rigidity; Experience/Lack of experience.
